Smoke everyday. Party every night. Chase skirts constantly, hoping one or two might come down. Plug into video games every walking moment. Scream at the idiot pundits on TV. Obsess over the alpha males playing your favorite sports.
Sounds like the good life?
Don’t make me laugh.
That’s the most vapid list of desires I could imagine.
I’ve lived that list and scratched my head wondering why I wasn’t happy.
Man needs a purpose
Men thrive on responsibility.
Women too, for that matter, but I’m not one and they can speak for their own issues.
Our culture today reveres and celebrates the man child. One need only flip the channels to see countless examples of bumbling buffoons being portrayed right and left.
Men as responsible, strong pillars of the community are few and far between.
If media shapes out culture, is it any wonder so many are directionless, lazy, irresponsible, and unhappy.
A man needs a reason in his life. A purpose. A cause.
Something to strive for an believe in with all of his heart.
Without that, he is useless to himself or anyone else.
That purpose comes from within. It deserves your total respect and focus. You must become urgent and make it your focal point.
Want to be an artist?
Draw, write, paint, sing, or whatever your desire is
Want to help the poor?
Roll up your sleeves, see how they live, identify the causes of their struggles, and help solve them.
Want to be a great dad?
Put down your damp phone and spend time getting to know the person growing and emerging next to you. You have a lot to offer them. You have experiences they haven’t yet imagined. Apply them.
The list goes on and on.
Find your purpose and make your days full of small goals to accomplish them.
And don’t even listen to the fools who try to tell you otherwise.
That’s how you become a winner.
